Export Music Sweden (EXMS)

ExMS was formed in June 1993 by the major bodies within the music industry, i.e. IFPI and SOM (record companies), SAMI (musicians and artists) and STIM/Svensk Musik (composers and publishers). These are also the organisations which finance the everyday activities.

ExMS was formed with the aim of initiating, assisting and facilitating the promotion and marketing of Swedish popular music worldwide.

ExMS works at an industry level and co-ordinates efforts for a two-way communication with the international market-place. In practice, this means that we encourage and co-ordinate Swedish participation in international trade fairs, seminars, festivals and other activities for the promotion of Swedish music around the world. We keep the international music industry informed about what’s going on in Sweden and the industry here up-to-date about the various opportunities for exposure and export.

ExMS seeks financing and sponsoring of the joint efforts being made for the export of Swedish music.

The earlier successes of people like ABBA, The Spotnicks, Blue Swede, Harpo, Secret Service and Europe and more recently Roxette, Ace of Base, Rednex, The Cardigans, Robyn, Eagle-Eye Cherry, E-Type, Sophie Zelmani, Alcazar, The Wannadies, Stakka Bo, Clawfinger, Meja, Pandora, The Soundtrack of our Lives, Hammerfall, Millencolin, Titiyo, The (International) Noice Conspiracy, The Hellacopters, The Hives, This Perfect Day, Sahara Hotnights and Eric Gadd is proof indeed of the international potential of Swedish music. There is a vast number of talented songwriters, artists, musicians and producers in Sweden. Export Music Sweden is working to help even more Swedish artists and composers achieve their international breakthrough.
